Board of Directors
Friends of Hong Kong Charities is generously supported by a board of directors who work on a strictly volunteer basis. It is fortunate to have the talented support and management of the board members listed below.
David Sutherland, President
David Sutherland is a Managing Director with Morgan Stanley and has responsibility for Morgan Stanley’s tax affairs in Asia. Prior to coming to Asia, David worked for the U.S. Department of Treasury where he was the Associate International Tax Counsel. In that job, David represented the U.S. Government regarding tax issues with most countries in Asia, including successful tax treaty negotiations with Thailand and Indonesia. Earlier in his career, David worked for Arthur Andersen; Cadwalder, Wickersham & Taft; and Caplin & Drysdale.
David Sutherland is the Vice Chairman of the Taxation Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, is a past Chairman of the Capital Markets Tax Committee in Hong Kong and is a member of the Joint Liaison Committee on Taxation that advises the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Department on matters of tax administration. David will be the President of Tax Executives Institute in Asia for 2007-8.
David is the chair of the board of Care Ministries, which works with the poorest of the poor in the Philippines. David is also involved with the Lion King project, which assists street children in Indonesia.
David earned a law degree from the University of Virginia, a Masters of Taxation from American University, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Louisville. David was the national intercollegiate debate champion in the United States in 1982.
David and his wife, Deanna, have three children: Kent (18), Corrie (17) and Dillon (16). The Sutherland family has lived in Hong Kong since 1997.
Jeff Brice, Vice President
Jeff Brice is Vice President of the East-West Institute HK Ltd, a Hong Kong non-profit organization. Jeff’s education and experience are in both business and ministry. He earned a Master of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 1990. His Bachelor of Science degree is in Business Management. He has worked for multi-national corporations as well as for non-profits.
Jeff also serves on the Boards of Bethany Ministries and Christian Solidarity Worldwide, CSW. His involvement in local church ministry has included Missions Committee, Prison Ministry, Alpha, and Stephen Ministry. Jeff and his wife Janet have lived in Hong Kong since 2001. They have two sons (in the US) and four grandchildren.
Rimpei Kozawa, Treasurer
Rimpei Kozawa has extensive cross-cultural and business operations experience in Western multinational companies in Japan, Greater China and SE Asia. He was born in Nagoya, Japan in 1962 and educated at Keio University in Tokyo Japan and in the US for his primary and secondary schooling. He has held senior positions in Western multinational companies; being fluent in Japanese and English along with his diverse cultural background makes him truly an international professional.
Rimpei’s passion as a follower of Christ is lay ministry in the area of discipleship. He serves at Faith Community Church as elder and voluntary pastoral assistant while leading various Bible study groups within and outside FCC. He founded ARK International Ltd. In 2002, and the business is solely dedicated to serving God’s people.
Chris Glover, Secretary
Chris is Deputy General Manager and Head of Conferences and Training for LexisNexis Hong Kong. Chris is a US qualified lawyer and serial entrepreneur, having established and sold two businesses in Hong Kong over the past seven years. He has been a board member of Evangelical Community Church for a total of seven years and International Christian School for the past two years. Chris and his wife Linda have lived in Hong Kong for thirteen years and have four children.
